Some fans upset over the new look - Blizzard says tough

Fans can be finicky. Some dedicated Diablo 2 fans are not happy with the look they’ve seen in the new gameplay. There have been various petitions to give Diablo 3 a darker less colorful look. One fan even took matters into his own hands. He took the stills provided by Blizzard and created his own version of them.

diablo 3 fan redoes art

Jay Wilson responded to the criticisms in an interview.

The key thing to remember here is that this has been Photoshopped. This isn’t created by the engine. Though it looks really cool, it’s almost impossible to do in a 3D engine because you can’t have lighting that smart and run on systems that are reasonable. If we could do that, we probably would in a few of the dungeons.

The gist is this: Too much dark and plain texture is not a good thing. It is harder to see teammates and to distinguish things in the environment. Lighting scenes as shown in the fan shots is very difficult with the engine they have.

i think that they should make this new version and see how many they sell and then thay should make thes ame game but with old graphics and realease screenshots and vids of it and take a poll of how many people would rather have the new one or the old ones graphics and you dont even have to finish the one with old graphis just get enough to get sreebshots and vids and if enough people like it the old one and say theyll buy it then you finish it and make likea couple thousand copies and sell it and if its still doin well then make many many mor copies andmake a whole crapload of money.

hahaha, what your suggesting is ludicrous… they would never release 2 versions of the same game just to bow to a couple of whiny fans. The game looks spectacular, I’m sure if these fans are so upset about the ‘rainbow’ graphics they’ll make a mod to ‘fix’ it. But taking into consideration what Blizzard has said, I doubt they would have the technical skill to modify the engine to create the desired darkness.
